How To Create Your Own Family Tree Scrapbook
Article by Kay Cromwell
If you already do scrapbooking, then you know how much fun it can be. But did you know that it?s also a great way to present your family tree?
Scrapbooking offers a unique presentation because of all the personal touches that you can add to it. A quick trip to the craft store provides loads of fun paper, decals and more colorful pens than you can possibly imagine. Look for decorative items that bring out the personality, hobbies or interests of your family members. Picking colors that seem to really fit a person will help to make the pages much more vivid and fun to look at. Be sure to select a scrapbook that can be expanded because your family tree will grow over the decades and you will want to be able to add all the new generations to it.
Children and grandchildren really enjoy all the cutting and pasting so be sure to include them. It?s a great way for them to really get involved in genealogy because they see the family history come to life before their eyes.
When choosing what you want to put in your scrapbook, it is always best to use copies of important documents. This will allow you to cut them without worry. Multiple copies should be made just in case your younger assistants make mistakes and need to start over.
One of the great things about a family tree scrapbook is its portability. Whether you want to take it to your next family reunion, or keep it on your coffee table it offers a convenient and interesting way to present your family?s history. Family tree scrapbooks make excellent gifts too.
A low cost alternative to expensive craft store supplies is to use your computer to create colorful and interesting pages, then print the pages out and add to your scrapbook. If you choose this path, you can either upload your photos or paste them onto pages that have been printed off. Don?t worry if you aren?t a computer expert. There are software programs that can assist you in designing beautiful scrapbook pages. These programs offer templates, photo editing and graphics that will inspire you. LumaPix FotoFusion Scrapbook Essentials is just one of the great programs out there.
Of course, if you are very comfortable with photo editing (cropping and enhancing) and graphics manipulation you do not need to purchase a program just for scrapbooking. You likely have programs that you can already use ? Paint Shop Pro for example will work fine. You may even already have an extensive collection of clip art that can be used as the decorative elements on your pages.
If you need some inspiration check out the website called, ?Scrapbook, Scrapbook?. They provide some very nice examples of family tree scrapbooks sent in to them from folks around the world. I really liked the two page family tree, but there are many other great pages there that you may like which you can download for your personal use.
Keep in mind that you will need to ask yourself some other questions before you actually begin compiling your scrapbook. How far back will you go? Will each page be dedicated to an individual, a couple or a family? Will you include just one side of your family, or both? How will you fill out the pages on relatives that you don?t know a lot about?
Just a bit of careful planning will go a long way to making your family tree scrapbook a success!

Wedding Scrapbook Ideas
Article by Adam
A wedding scrapbook is an amazing idea to give a close family member or friend a wedding present they will remember and cherish. Firstly you are probably going to be the only person giving this present and secondly it shows that you have put a lot of thought and time into the gift. It shows love and appreciation because not everyone would take the time and energy to pick through all the photos and create a work of art.
Having the idea is one thing, but creating the scrapbook is another. Its not an easy task and is going to take a whole lot of time. Not only that its difficult to come up with good wedding scrapbook ideas. This article is going to help you unleash your creativeness and give you some of the best wedding scrapbook ideas around – turning your amateur book into a gift your proud to give.
You have probably heard the saying “failing to prepare is preparing to fail” and nothing is truer when it comes to making your wedding scrapbook. The last thing you want to be doing is running to the shop, or sifting though photos when you are in the midst of a crazy creative spell. Preparing to make your book isn’t as easy as it sounds – you need to make sure you have everything in one organized place within easy reach. Here is a list of must have materials you will need:
• A wedding album• Wedding photos and memorabilia• Colorful paper – preferably acid-free• Craft scissors – preferably the one with the decorative edges• Colorful pens and markers• Decorative items such as glitter, stars and confetti
By far the biggest step is the gathering of all the best wedding pictures and memorabilia. Remember if your book only has photos then it’s not a scrapbook – it’s a photo album. You’re going to need to get creative here. Create a page dedicated to each milestone in the couple’s lives together – think birthdays, Christmas, and engagement party.
**Remember not all the photos need to be of the wedding, but they do need to be related to the couple. **
Your next step is going to be gathering mementos that spark a reaction in the couple. I’m not talking about photos here, I’m talking about brochures of their honeymoon hotel, wedding invitations, center pieces (if they are small enough), words from their other friends and family. Create a “how you met page” and go thought how they actually got together – were they set up? Did they meet on an enchanted evening walking around the lake? The deeper and more detailed you go, the bigger the reaction. Your basically looking to include anything that is related to the couple, and their wedding.
After you have gathered everything, the final step is to actually decide what you want to include and what you want to leave out. Quite often this is one of the hardest steps as you will want to include everything. Take your time, plan out each page and what only use what you think will work – done just include it for the sake of it. It’s also important to remember that on special pages that you want to draw attention to, less is more. Let the readers’ eyes be drawn to the area of interest without distractions.
In overview, a wedding scrapbook as a gift is awesome. It’s one of a kind and it shows just how well you know the couple. Finding great wedding scrapbook ideas is hard work and it takes time to gather everything before hand – but the payoff it worth it!

Scrapbooking: The Great Things about Creating Memory Albums
Article by Matt Michaels
Scrapbooking is a fantastic hobby, but some people don?t understand why one should bother with it when it?s so easy to buy a photo album anyway. Years ago, the answer to this would have been easy. Old photo albums had very high levels of acid and could easily destroy photos. However, the case is different now. These days, acid-free photo albums are everywhere. That being said, is it now right to conclude that creating scrapbooks don?t make sense? Absolutely not! There are other great reasons why people should still go for memory albums or scrapbooks. For one, these albums are great storytellers. They don?t only show photos but let you tell the story behind the captured images too. Sure, a laughing baby may be pleasant to look at, but wouldn?t it be nice to know why he or she is laughing?Scrapbooks are also an extension of yourself. They reflect your style and personality. Much like furnishing your home, you also have the liberty on how to make your memory albums more you. When they?re done, you will be more than proud to display them so guests can take a glimpse of who and what you are.Memories must be shared and enjoyed. They are not supposed to be shoved in the drawers and boxes. They must always be there out in the open, not only for the delight of your visitors but for you own inspiration too.Coming up with scrapbooking ideas as well as turning them into reality can also be a lovely past time. Inevitably, it can stir up gratefulness in your heart. By simply looking at the past experiences and the smiling faces of the people who were a part of your life, you will certainly feel thankful and positive. Moreover, when you share these albums with others and re-live some of the most wonderful moments of your life, you will certainly be more appreciative of what you had and still have.Creating scrapbooks is also an effective stress reliever. It?s just very therapeutic remembering the important things in life. As you decompress while working on every page, you rediscover your real values, passions, and aspirations. You forget about the pressures of the day and just focus on where you truly want to be.Making scrapbooks, contrary to what many think, isn?t only for the now but for the future too. When you create them, you are also creating a legacy you?d leave to the future generation. For instance, if you are a mother, you can make a scrapbook for your child so he or she can get a sense of who you are when he or she grows up. In addition, he or she will also have an idea of how he or she was like as a child. Your kid would be grounded in the knowledge that he or she has always been loved and cared for. Finally, scrapbooking is simply fun. It allows you to be creative in every page and let you explore endless possibilities every time you?re working on a masterpiece.

Scrapbooking Ideas for Using Tags
Article by Michel Maling
Tags have many ways in which they can be used in your scrapbooking layouts. In todays scrapbooking ideas and solutions, we look at some of the ways in which you can use these magic little components to add character and make your scrapbooking layout look like a masterpiece.
A tag is a rectangular piece of card or board normally with a hole in the top to attach it to your page. It can be cut with square or rounded corners or even bought at your local scrapbooking supply store ready made to suit your layout. There are many varying designs for tags, but even the humble tag shape offers many possibilities.
Tags have come a long way since their humble beginnings as labels, and are very popular as scrapbooking embellishments. Tags can be cut in many different sizes, depending on how you wish to use them in your layout.
A great way to use tags is as a title for your scrapbooking page. Each tag could have one letter of your title on it then hung across the top of your page on a string to resemble a washing line. You could attach them to your layout with brats or even mini pegs. A dab of acid free glue under each tag will be necessary to keep them in place.
Another scrapbooking idea and solution would be to cut them in a circular shape and use them for dates or little snippets of information that you would like to convey to your readers.
Photographs could also be cut into tags to add something unusual to your layout. If you want to punch a bigger hole in the top of your tag, you can use file protectors around the hole to make it stronger and finish it off before threading cotton or string through it and attaching it to your page.
A great scrapbooking idea and solution would be to cut the tags out from the same paper that you use to mount your photographs on, or some other patterned paper that you use in your layout.
You don’t need to only write on every tag, you could paste a small picture, ornament, shell or photo onto it. Material or riff raff also works well. You could also tie a whole bunch of tags together as an embellishment for your layout.
As you can see there are loads of ways in which you can experiment with your tags on your layout. Once you get started, more and more ideas will come to you and you will create truly original works of art.

7 Shortcuts of Scrapbooking Ideas From Library
Article by Jasmine N
I always has problem on sourcing books or information from library. I find it is very tedious to look for books you want in huge collections in library. Sometime even the librarian also cannot help you much, but only can guide you which book shelf to look for your book. Finally I learn how to do it while I’m so into scrapbooking ideas. Here I share my seven shortcuts of sourcing scrapbooking ideas in the library.
Shortcut #1 Research from Amazon database.
This is I always do in searching scrapbooking reference I want from Amazon. Once the book is found in Amazon, I search the same book through in the library online database. If the book is found, I will note down the library code number plus all the ISDN, and go down to the library to borrow the book, before I decide to buy the book. This method is most effective and save your time from blind hunting for suitable book in library for hours.
Shortcut #2 Library OPAC system.
Most of library today facilitate with an online book search database. First go to the OPAC system type scrapbooking to search for book you want, write down the call number and go to the book shell to find your book. If you cannot find the book due to it’s on loan, you still can find some other books related to same topics.

In library the most resourceful section is the children section. This is because children need a lot of information in their learning. Library normally will organize whole world wide information into the children section. It’s like a mini world encyclopedia.

This is the most easier way, the find new books. Sometime happened that these new arrival book include new scrapbooking reference. So make sure you check the new arrival corner when you first step into the library.
Shortcut #5 General, media video or recreation and leisure section.
In some library, scrapbooking is categories under different grouping or section. I was surprised to find one or two good scrapbooking reference book at general section. Occasionally, I found VCD of scrapbooking at media video section. You can try your luck to search at media video section or general section, you may get good source from there. Some good book on scrapbooking also available at recreation and leisure section, because scrapbooking is also a hobby.
Shortcut #6 Reference section.
A lot of good book that are out of print are available at the reference book section. In this section most of the book are not available for loan, but you can soap your time there for two to three hours to read it. If some of the scrapbooking idea you read is good to keep for personal scrapbooking, you can seek librarian for photocopying the book chapter. Note that some librarian provide self service photocopying for this purpose. You are only allow to make one copy and cannot copy more than twenty percent of the whole book.
Shortcut #7 Seek help from librarian or other library visitors.
If you go to bigger library branch, there will be a lots of librarian available for help. Just need to be sure necessary information are handy with you. Information such as book title, author name, call number, ISDN number. The important is the book title and author name, others are secondary to know for librarian to help you. Sometime the library you visit is small, and less helpers available, you can try asking the person next to you who is searching book nearby. You may able to get good lead too. This is the last option I always do if the library is small and less helpers around.
